Simon Keller (John Cusack) to amerykański złodziej, który przyjeżdża do Australii, planując skok na bank. By go jednak wykonać, potrzebuje wspólnika, który pokieruje autem. Zamiast zwerbować kogoś z przestępczego półświatka jego uwagę zwraca były kierowca rajdowy, Roberts (Thomas Jane), obecnie pracujący jako instruktor jazdy. Keller zapisuje się na naukę jazdy, a podczas pobieranej lekcji dokonuje zuchwałego napadu na bank. W rezultacie Roberts, chcąc nie chcąc, zostaje wspólnikiem przestępstwa. Nie wszystko jednak przebiega po myśli samego Kellera...
